Flying in a balloon is generally a fairly safe activity (statistically it is the safest means of air transport). However, we must consider that during the flight we depend on the mechanics of the balloon, the experience of the pilot and the weather conditions. Like all human activities, it has its determining factors and peculiarities.

The company we ballooning in bagan must offer maximum security:

•  You must periodically carry out technical reviews of the flight equipment, following the established flight manuals

•  Hot air balloon pilots must have a commercial air transport license, endorsed by a state aviation safety agency and with an approved license

•  You must comply with all regulations of the civil aeronautics of the territory where you fly

•  Flights require a minimum of 4 people, a pilot and three crew. And they have a certain capacity of people according to the model that must be clearly indicated

•  You must have all the technological equipment for air navigation that guarantees safety during the flight (altimeter, varimeter -measures the average vertical speed-, thermometer, compass, radio and fire extinguisher -of mandatory nature-

•  You must have a liability and passenger insurance that covers all kinds of risks

•  The company must provide detailed information about the journey. The maximum height of the balloon flight will depend on the air restrictions of each flight zone. The usual height is 1,000 meters above the ground.

•  The company must prove its flight experience

Contraindications for flight:

•  Pregnant

•  Obesity> 120 kg

•  Children under 6 years

•  People suffering from some type of heart disease or vertigo

Other tips:

•  Flights should be carried out only if weather conditions are favorable and the wind is light. The ideal wind should blow at about 12 km / h. Sunrise and sunset are usually the best times of the day to fly

•  Hot air balloons, those used today, use propane or butane gas

•  The temperature in the balloon is not lower than that of the ground. The burners compensate the existing thermal gradient at the height that we are going to fly. It is not necessary to carry excessively overwhelming clothing on board.

•  Comfortable clothes and shoes. Depending on the duration of the journey, bring a snack

•  The balloon pods go with just the right space. It is advisable to leave any non-essential item

•  Punctuality is essential in security. A delay of more than ten minutes with respect to the take-off appointment can mean the loss of the flight. The sun creates turbulence and wind of thermal origin as the minutes pass, and it is essential to put safety before any other aspect

How does a hot air balloon work?

Inflation consists of two phases. First, the balloon is spread on the ground and introduced into the cold air with a large fan. Next, a propane burner introduces hot air into the partially inflated casing. Hot air straightens the balloon, which will remain tied to the ground until the pilot is ready for takeoff.

Hot air balloons work thanks to the difference in density of the air inside the balloon with respect to the outside air. Inside the balloon there is usually helium or hot air, which are less dense than the outside air.

The height that the hot air balloons become will depend on the density of the air inside the balloon, since once it is level with the outer density, the balloon will stop rising. To descend, the density of the air in the balloon must be greater than that of the outside air. This density management is the task of the balloon pilot.
